Praveen Kumar hails from a lineage of goldsmiths in Mangalore, Karnataka, but his artistic journey led him to Bangalore, where his initial work with a prominent architect as a planner and illustrator laid the groundwork for his career in art. He honed his expertise in perspective drawings and creative design, skills that proved crucial when he decided to pursue painting full-time. Complementing this practical experience, Kumar sought formal training in the visual arts, achieving both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Fine Arts. His early professional years were marked by participation in numerous group exhibitions, with a particular focus on cityscapes. Kumar’s paintings delve into the intricate fabric of urban environments, portraying their dynamic architecture, inherent contradictions, and complex emotional tapestry. Through his art, he aims to express the multifaceted nature of city life — how it draws in, overwhelms, and interacts with its inhabitants. His canvases are alive with the city’s rhythms, its whispers and roars, capturing its pulse in lines and hues. The city, in Kumar's eyes, is a mirror to the human condition, and his paintings often reflect a part of his own self amidst the urban sprawl. A dedicated freelance artist for over twenty years, Kumar's work has been showcased in galleries across India and overseas, earning him recognition and several prestigious awards, such as the Camel Art Foundation South Zonal Award 2021 and The Leela Kala Puraskar 2014, among others.
