SRINIA CHOWDHURY
About
Srinia Chowdhury’s art is characterized by an illustrative style, refined language, and tactile surface that create a world of emotional interpretations and possibilities. Her work is a poignant commentary on the impact of patriarchy on people of all genders, and she believes that art can be a powerful social instrument for change. With her expressive clay modelling, bold use of colour, and sgraffito drawings on ceramics, Srinia creates a remarkable fusion of realism and abstraction. She completed her Masters in Fine Arts with Bronze as her specialization and has participated in sponsored symposiums and residencies in Germany, Australia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, and other countries that have broadened her artistic practice. Srinia is the recent recipient of the highly esteemed Jyotsna Bhatt Ceramics Award for 2022 by Ark Foundation, Baroda; which she is currently using to develop her new series "The Costume Party" as part of her project. This idea for the series originated during her time at the Keramik Kunstlerhaus in Neumünster, Germany, earlier last year in April 2022. Srinia's ceramic sculptures are proudly displayed in some of the most prestigious museums worldwide, with the Mark Rothko Art Centre being the most recent museum to add her work to their collection. She resides and works in New Delhi, where she continues to push the boundaries of her artistic practice.
