SUBODH KEKAR

Subodh states that his convictions find their expression in his creations. He believes that artists are sensors, receptors, and transmitters of ideas within a society, and he strives to fulfil that role to the best of his ability, even at the risk of drawing the ire of those in power.

Speaking about his influences and inspirations, Subodh describes himself as an “ocean artist.” The ocean, he says, exists both inside and outside his works; it is his master and his muse. He celebrates the ocean as a creator of civilizations. A dedicated student of history, he allows historical narratives to become subtle footnotes within many of his works.
